Wilder Sensing’s recent webinar provided a deep-dive into the art of mastering bioacoustic bird surveys. This event was delivered by the Biological Recording Company in partnership with Wilder Sensing, Wildlife Acoustics and NHBS
Hosted by Ella Milne, Ecosystem Analyst at Ecosulis, this session discussed the start to finish of running bioacoustic surveys. In part 1, Wilder Sensing CEO, Geoff Carss, stressed that the key when designing your bioacoustic survey is ‘what is the exam question you are hoping to answer?’. From here, users should define their survey methodology; how large is the site, will it be monitored over the short or long term, is there a particular focus (habitat, land-use change, specific species, etc.), and where can recorders be deployed?
Paul Howden-Leach, UK Business Development Consultant for Wildlife Acoustics, then provided a deep-dive into bioacoustic recording devices, their differences, and how to set them up. Wilder Sensing Business Development Manager Cat Scutts explored bioacoustic data interpretation, before the session was wrapped up with an informative Q&A session with viewers.
