Webinar

Date & Time: 10:30am-12:00pm BST, Tuesday 26th November

Location: Online – Register here

Partners: This event is being delivered by the Biological Recording Company in partnership with Wilder Sensing, Wildlife Acoustics and NHBS

In the third instalment of the Biological Recording Company’s Bioacoustic series, you will learn how to effectively plan and conduct bird surveys. Hosted by Ella Milne, Ecosystem Analyst at Ecosulis, this session brings together experts in the field to show you how to use sound recorders and cutting-edge AI tools to gather, process, and interpret bird activity data.

This webinar builds on previous sessions, How Can We Use Sound to Measure Biodiversity? and Can Passive Acoustic Monitoring of Birds Replace Site Surveys?.

What will be covered?

This webinar will provide practical guidance on integrating bioacoustics into your bird surveys. You will learn how to:

  • Set up and manage passive audio recorders: We will cover everything from selecting the right equipment and how to configure them to optimise the results based on different project requirements and constraints
  • Design an effective survey: Specific guidance on how to design your survey based on the size and characteristics of your site. We will also discuss how to optimise your budget and resources.
  • Harness AI for data processing: One of the challenges of bioacoustic monitoring is managing and analysing the vast volumes of sound data generated. We will show you how AI tools can be used to process sound data quickly and accurately, helping you identify bird species, interpret behavioural patterns, and map species distribution with ease.

Whether you’re new to bioacoustics or looking to optimise your current methods, this webinar will equip you with the knowledge and tools to enhance your bird surveys and unlock deeper insights through sound and AI.

The live audience will have the opportunity to submit their questions to our speakers during Q&A segments following the presentations.
