Empowering #GenerationRestoration: Reflections from the CIEEM Autumn Conference

The UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration is a global call to action to prevent, halt, and reverse the degradation of ecosystems worldwide by 2030. As we approach this pivotal deadline, it’s vital to reflect on the progress made here in the UK and Ireland and assess how well-positioned we are to meet ambitious species and habitat restoration targets. While the drive to reconnect with and restore nature offers a hopeful narrative, bridging the evidence and skills gaps within the environmental sector remains critical to ensuring success.

The CIEEM Autumn Conference 2024 provided a platform to celebrate the successes of terrestrial, coastal, and freshwater restoration projects while addressing the challenges we face. The event brought together experts, practitioners, and advocates from across the ecology and environmental management sector, fostering collaboration and inspiring innovation. The conference shone a spotlight on pioneering methods, shared practical solutions, and tackled urgent questions about how we approach restoration to ensure long-term impact.

We were proud to sponsor this inspiring event, and to partner with several of the excellent organisations who attended the event. Supporting #GenerationRestoration aligns with our mission of empowering practitioners with cutting-edge, data-driven insights that enable significantly greater understanding of how ecosystems are changing and the communities that depend on them.

By sharing knowledge, celebrating achievements, and embracing new techniques, we are collectively building a future where nature thrives and where the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration leaves a lasting legacy.
