To better understand the impact on a site or landscape, long term monitoring will provide new insights as to which species are using the site and which locations and habitats they are using.

With migrating species, such as wading birds, you can understand which part of a site a species is using and how long flocks are staying for. If a site management is to attract more wading birds then year by year comparisons become straightforward.
